Valentine's Headbands

This is seriously the easiest craft ever. It is great to do for school party's or just because. We did these with my Kindergartner's class 2 years ago and have done it every year since.

Grab some poster board and cut headbands. Make sure you cut it the long way, or you might end up with to short of headbands. Especially if your kiddo has a big head, which mine does!! That was a lesson I learned the hard way.
Let the kiddo's decorate them any way they want. You can have them color them, glue glitter to them, or we used foam letter stickers to spell out their names. Glue the headbands together. Twist your pipe cleaners around a pen, attach 2 foam hearts or flowers back to back. Stapel the pipe cleaners to the inside of the headband. And now you have  cute Valentine Day headbands.

***This is also a repost from last year.  We will also be making these for our preschool party.  We are using fun cupcake picks, that we found at the dollar store.  We popped the glittery styrofoam hearts off the the sticks and hot glued them and then stuck them on a pipe cleaner.  Super cute!!

Valentine's Day Shades

This was not as easy as I thought it would be. I'd say at least a 1st grade level. Not any younger than that or you will be cutting out every single pair. The older kids did fine, it was the younger one's who had me wishing I hadn't attempted it. Although, I had 3 additional kids. So in a small group this would probably not be to bad. This is a great idea for classroom parties. You'll want to print the template on card stock. The only thing I had to pick up was the red cellophane. And I got that at the dollar store. Cheap, Easy and Fun!!

I got the template for these glasses, here. They also have templates for rounded glasses and star glasses, which would be fun to make and decorate for any occasion. the stars would be awesome for the 4th of July!
***This is a repost from last year.  We are using these in preschool for our party next week.  However, I had a YW, who was looking for service hours and she cut out all 20 pairs!  Megan, I LOVE YOU!!  The kids are going to love them!

Me Like To Eat Valentines

I like this little monster guy! And so do my kids. He was also super easy to make. For the template, go to The Rubber Punkin. You can seriously do it in under an hour. I love cute and quick projects. He's also very forgiving, because I accidently messed up on him. And when you see the template, your going to wonder how in the world, but I did. He was so much fun to make!

~ Love Actually ~

Valentine's at my house this year is on a small budget. Not that Josh and I do extravagant when it comes to holiday's. We only spend about $20.00 on each other for Christmas. We figure that we don't need to go crazy on a holiday to show each other that we love each other. We show each other love all year round!

With that said, let me tell you about this awesome blog, Love Actually. This is a great blog full of idea's for romance on a budget. And not just on Valentine's day, but every day of the year! I spent an hour browsing this sight, trying to decide just what I wanted to share, but I couldn't pinpoint one thing. It is full of great idea's. Everything from cheap date night ideas, to gifts, to advice and so much more. Your really must go and see it for yourself! I now have a few ideas up my sleeve to make Valentine's day affordable and special!!!

This is a double sided Valentine block that I whipped together. It was so easy. Cut a 2x4 into a block and sand it down. A little paint, some scrapbook paper, cute printable and modge podge and wala! Easy Peasy Valentine decoration!

I got the word art from, here. I just looked under the love category and found lot's of really cute ideas. And the eye chart picture, which is so cute, from here. You have to sign up for a newsletter and become a facebook fan in order to get this little freebie, but it's so worth it.
I am so loving the red and black. Very Twilight! I wanted to theme it around Twilight, but knew my husband would draw the line at me displaying Twilight Valentine Day crafts on the half wall!!

Cute Valentine Frame

Posted by Picasa
We made these darling picture frames at the Valentine Party for my daughters first grade class. They were a hit! The kids were so excited to get their pictures taken and then make the frames for their moms, dads, grandparents, or whomever they wish! A few of the hearts fell off of hers but nothing a little glue won't fix. Actually if I were to do this again I would use...GLUE DOTS!

Math Bean Bag Toss

Sometimes Blogger frustrates me! It wouldn't let me rotate this picture and save it as the rotated picture. But hopefully you can get the general idea.
I am so excited for the Valentine party in my daughters classroom. I am going to have two kids toss a bean bag on two different numbers, and the two of them will have to add the numbers together to get the sum. I just took four big posters and taped them together, cut out a heart and put numbers on the heart.
I had my daughter test it out just to make sure they would think it was fun (never know!) and she loved it. Her and I played it for a long time and had fun and learned all at the same time.

Painting with matchbox cars

This was a lot of fun for the kids to make. We cut out white hearts and placed them inside a shirt box and then dropped splotches of paint all over the heart. We then used cars to paint the heart, by running the cars through the paint. We sprinkled ours with an iridescent glitter and they looked so cool! The more tread the tires have the cooler the paint job. This is also fun to do with marbles and let them roll around in the box.

Pink Rice Krispie Hearts

I am the "party mom" for my first graders class and I have been trying to come up with some fun snacks. I know I will be overloading them with sugar but Valentines Day is my very favorite holiday-it is also my anniversary.

I just took the basic Rice Krispie treat recipe off the box of cereal. I added food coloring to the melted butter and marshmallow right before I added the cereal. I then used a cookie cutter to get the heart shape, and melted chocolate to put a heart in the center of the Rice krispie. I finished it off with sprinkles.

I think they turned out really cute and hope the kids will enjoy them. I am making a couple other things too but I think Brandy is posting the heart oreo cookies. She made them for her sons preschool class and they were a success, so I will be doing those as well.

Conversation Heart Sorting Mat

Cute, cute idea! Got this off of Sugardoodle, one of my favorite places to visit. She made this cute little sorting chart to go with conversations hearts. My boys had so much fun! We colored them and then I gave each of them a box of hearts to sort out. You could adapt this idea to many diffrent degree's depending on the children you are working with. Melanie has lots of ideas to go with it.

Fun and Easy Card for Grandma

This card has become a tradition for my kids to make my parents each year. It is fun and easy. First you trace the childs hand (we do one from each child), then take a paper and fold it accordion style and glue it to each of the hands.
On the outside write "I love you this much" and as they open the card it stretches. My daughter wants to do this for each person in her class. Oh boy........... :)

The craftiness of others

Sorry that we are such horrible bloggers. We did so well right at the start. We each tried to post at least 3 to 4 posts a week. And we did really good until the holidays came. And now we are in a rut. It's not that we aren't doing fun stuff, but we're busy! All you mom's know how busy it gets. So, please bear with us while we catch up and try to prioritize our lives. Blogging here and on my family blog has lately gotten put on the back burner. Sorry! It's just the way it is. I am trying to work my schedule out so that I am spending more time with my kids, trying to fit in exercise, and everything else in life. I'm afraid I'm giving up some of my blogging time for exercise. It's important and I'm really trying to get into the habit of doing it.

Good thing that there are some really crafty ladies out and about to get ideas from. Of course, because I am dieting, and trying really hard to be good, I want to bake. But I love to bake regardless, and here are two great idea's that we are going to try.

I found this little gem at Make and Takes. So much fun! I wonder what else you could make. See it here.
How cool is this cake? I'm going to try it. This weekend perhaps. It's super easy. At least it sounds super easy. See it here. Wouldn't it be fun to do it in all valentine day colors. OOOH! Or make cute cupcakes for the preschool party, although that would take oodles of time. I'll have to ponder that one.

For some great valentine printable sfor the kiddo's click here and here . And for tons of great ideas and printable valentines, check out Skip to My Lou's Valentine page.
What idea's have you seen or do you have???

Who Do You Love, FHE

We did a really fun family home evening this week. I cut out a ton of colored hearts and we talked about what it means to love someone. Then I had the kids draw a picture of or write on the hearts all the people they loved. They had so much fun! I then took them and hung them up in our living room where we will leave them until Valentine's day is over, that way the kids can remember all the people they love!! We have Grandma & Grandpa's, cousins, aunts & uncles, friends, and even grandpa's dog. It was super easy and super fun!
